FAQ’s

How much does it cost? Is it expensive to train at your academy?

Our prices vary depending on the program that you choose. We have affordable programs starting at $60/month. We also have different payments options available to reduce any financial burdens. Yet, when choosing a martial arts school, price should not be your primary factor to consider. You may also want to consider level of instruction, knowledge of instructors, cleanliness of facility, atmosphere, chemistry of relationship between students and instructors, among other things. As a student of the martial arts, I have traveled all over the world and been to many different gyms and academies. One thing that I can tell you is that the gyms that tended to attract students by relying on having the lowest prices tended to have the worse programs – unknowledgeable instructors, unclean facilities, poor attitudes, etc. It is like buying food. You can of course by a bologna sandwich for a cheaper price than a steak. With that said, it was important for us at Treasure Coast American Top Team to offer classes and make it affordable without sacrificing the integrity of our art. Our programs are not expensive. The value of what we teach and offer outweigh the price of our programs.

I have a job and a family and I can’t afford to get hurt. Is it safe?

Yes. The way that we structure our training programs in our academy, is undoubtedly safe. The majority of our students train in martial arts as a hobby. They certainly do not want to walk around with black eyes. Our professional and amateur fighters do not want to get hurt or else they wouldn’t be able to train properly, much less fight. Our certified instructors do not want to get hurt or else they wouldn’t be able to teach. Nor would we ever want to hurt our students or we would have no one to teach. While we believe in training hard, we feel that training smart is more important. Local “tough guy” gyms and academies that focus on the “hard” stuff normally do so because they do not have the technical knowledge to do much of anything else. Our programs revolve around skills that focus on the technical proficiency of positioning and maneuvering, not brawling. Yes, training is safe.

I am ? years old. Is it too late for me? Am I too old to start training now?

It is never too late to start training. Questioning whether it is too late to start training is like asking is it too late to start being healthy or if it is too late to start eating better. Those questions would be ridiculous. Learning and training in martial arts is a personal journey that has no set limitations (except that ones that you may choose to put on yourself). I grappled with a gentleman who had no use of his legs and would crawl in and out of his wheelchair in order to get on and off the mat. He saw no limits in his journey. Why should we? Learning to throw a proper punch or perform an armbar does not have an age restriction. Martial arts does not discriminate against gender, race, height, weight, and certainly not age.

I’ve always wanted to try to compete. How soon can I start competing?

Martial arts will be your own personal journey. Depending on the type of competition you wish to compete in will also dictate how soon you may start competing. When it comes to grappling tournaments, they have different divisions for different levels from novice to advanced. You could actually start competing as soon as you feel confident that you can perform well. Competing in mixed martial arts will obviously take some time to develop the skills in order to compete successfully. The amount of time will be contingent upon your level of commitment and your progress. Honestly, you wouldn’t expect to get into a cage after just a few short months of training with another human being looking to tear your head off. Defending yourself under those circumstances would be difficult enough, much less winning. We have a history and a tradition of producing quality mma fighters. In order to wave the Treasure Coast ATT flag and fight representing our team, you must go through our process and obtain a blue shirt before being considered to fight.

Do you think I can make it as an MMA fighter?

I get this question all the time. I don’t think it is as important for me to think that you can make it as a fighter as it is for you to think that you can make it as a fighter. There is so much more to being an MMA fighter than just showing up and throwing punches. It takes years of a dedicated commitment to yourself, your team, and your craft. Additionally, it takes years of a tremendous amount of sacrifice of time, money, your fun, and on your body. That’s just the beginning. However, the rewards that I have received professionally and personally, not just through competition, but the martial arts in general have been well worth it.
